Grade Six students will continue their mastery of the skills learned in previous grade levels. There will be an emphasis on the students’ ability to create and compose. Students will use cognitive skills and deduction to help them perform a number of pieces using I, IV, V, and vi chords. Students will use appropriate music vocabulary to defend their musical choices. Listening to and playing multicultural music and researching how it relates to other cultures around the world, in our state, community and school will be focused on in Grade Six. 

Students will use their musical knowledge and skills to synthesize information and create music. Students will be able to read, write, and compose music using increasingly complex rhythms and meters. Choral skills, including singing in two and three part harmony will be developed. Major chord progressions, minor modes, advanced recorder playing and triple mallet technique are explored in 5th Grade Music.
